FOLLOW MY LIFE ON THE ROAD

Family Mission, Turned Lifestyle

Growing up, I didn’t travel much at all. Sure, I took road trips to nearby cities, but most of my life was spent stationary in Corpus Christi, Texas. At 22, though, I made the drastic decision to move to Las Vegas, Nevada, on a whim. This sparked a wanderlust that would later spread like wildfire, fueling my desire for exploration.

Fast forward nearly a decade, and my great-grandma passed away. For all intents and purposes, she was the rock of our family. After her passing, my mom entrusted me with a special mission: to spread my great-grandma’s ashes across the United States. My great-grandma didn’t travel much during her life, so this felt like the perfect homage to her legacy. I embarked on a multi-month journey, spreading her ashes throughout the western and midwestern United States. This was the spark that grew into a flame.

After completing this family mission, I found myself craving more travel time. I took short trips here and there, but it wasn’t enough to satisfy me. In typical fashion, and again on a whim, I bought a 2010 Chevy Suburban. Over two weeks, my best friend and I gutted the interior, rebuilding it for sleeping, cooking, eating, and working. This was the flame that became a wildfire. Since finishing the build, I’ve spent the last two years on and off, traveling all over the United States.

This blog is dedicated to the good, the bad, and the ugly of my travels. My promise to readers is that I won’t glamorize or sugarcoat my experiences. I hope to inspire people to travel but won’t evangelize this lifestyle. If that sounds like it floats your boat, follow along as I explore the beauty waiting in our sprawling country.

My Suburban Inside and Out

There are two questions that I get asked from travelers and non-travelers alike.

  1. Can I have a tour of your setup?
  2. How much did everything cost?

One of the core principles of this blog is complete transparency in everything that I write about. I dedicated an entire section of my blog to outlining, in painful detail, a tour of the build as well as the cost associated with it.
